Why do I need a Savior?
Have you ever borrowed money from anyone? If you have experienced any form of debt, you’ll know what it feels like to have to owe somebody. We owe our Father in Heaven big time.
As humans, we are His spirit children who would all love to come home to their Father, but we are like in two separate islands. We need a bridge. Jesus is the bridge that connects us back to our heavenly home. He has already paid the price, the toll. The only thing we have to do is endure the arduous walk on the straight and narrow path that leads us home.
What did Jesus Christ save us all from? There is a passage in the Bible that says, “The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.” (1 Corinthians 15:26). It is the Savior that saves us from certain death. We die once when our mortal frames have given themselves up to dust, and we also have the death that comes from sin. The death we experience when we sin comes when we grow unworthy to remain in the presence of our Heavenly Father. That is spiritual death.
We overcome those deaths through making a covenant to follow Jesus Christ throughout our lives.
It may not be easy, but all the Lord asks from us is that we try and that we keep on trying. He loves us dearly and wishes very much for us to receive our inheritance and live in His kingdom of glory. And that is why we need Jesus Christ as a Pattern, an Exemplar, a Comforter, a Brother and a Savior to help us overcome and win in this life and in eternity.
“O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15: 55-57)
